Ch : Chain

FR: Foundation Row

FP :Forward Pass

RP: Return Pass

NS RP Nonstandard Return Pass

YO: Yarn Over

YU: Yarn Under

TSS: Tunisian Simple Stitch

TFS: Tunisian Full Stitch

TSS 2 Tog: Tunisian Simple Stitch 2 together

Yarn:

C1: Color 1

C2: Color 2

C3: Color 3

Patterns used here are

1.   Tunisian Smocking:  two row repeats

2.   Special Rib : Single Row Repeat

TSS: Insert hook from right to left under front vertical bar of a stitch YO and pull up a loop

Tunisian  Full Stitch:  insert hook between 2 vertical bars, YO pull up a loop.( Worked into the space between two vertical bars of adjacent stitches)

Working Yarn Under:

Yarn under creates a different orientation than that of yarn over.

Pull yarn towards you as for purl but hold it tight with your finger while you insert your hook into stitches indicated to pull up a loop

Yarn under should stay on the hook and not wrapped around the stitch.

At the end of the row you should have the same number of stitches you started with.

Color Change on right edge: with 2 stitches remaining in RP, pick up the next color

Color Change on Left edge: Pull up a loop on with the new color to begin the Return Pass

Bind off Row: is worked differently here: please follow instructions for the same

Note 2: I have used Ganga Alisha : chain 38  ( even number  + 2) 11.5” finished size

Have used 8mm hook for Tunisian Smock pattern and 6mm hook for  special Rib stitch – also named  Saloniki Rib

If you are using any other yarn, other than that mentioned here, you will have to use 2 sizes bigger hook than recommended and the stitch count in even numbers + 2 edge sts) to suit the length

You will be required to test the gauge before working on the project

Please refer row by row while working,

Color change from right

Also adjust the number of FS and Rows as per your gauge to make a final square of 11.5/ 12”

Yarn:

Ganga Alisha : chain 38 (36+2) or as per your gauge to measure 11.5”/12”

Hook 8.00mm and 6.00mm

1.    With C1, Chain multiples of 2 +2 to measure 11.5” /12”

Foundation Row (The first Forward and Return Pass will create the foundation Row)

** For Foundation row you can cast on the stitches using 2 hooks   à Link given

Forward Pass: Stick the hook into the back bump of second chain from the hook and pull up a loop. Continue across the chain, pulling up a loop in each back bump, leaving all loops on the hook.

At the end of the chain, you will have the same number of loops on the hook as chains that you started with.

Reverse pass:  Yarn over and pull through one loop *Yarn over again and pull through 2 loops * Continue till you have one loop left on the hook

The remaining loop on the hook is the right edge stitch

For this pattern at the end of Foundation stitch change color in the right edge as specified

To start the next Forward Row always skip the front bar of the right edge stitch and begin with the second bar mentioned (= first stitch) to pull up a loop)

First Step: TSS in 1st St – Stitch next to Right edge stitch

Second Step: 1 TFS in space between stitches

Third Step: 1 TFS in next space

Repeat the three steps as above till you have last stitch. Work the last as left edge stitch.

Return Pass: YO pull through 1, { YO pull through 3, YO pull through 2} until you have 2 loops on your hook, Change to next color here

Subsequent rows are   1 TSS, TFS in next two Spaces

Repeat till end

Last stitch is always edge stitch worked under both loops.

Note: While working the Special Rib Stich, you would have lot more loops on the hook at the end of Forward Pass.
